Vol. 478 No. 2

Written Answers. - Passport Application.

Seán Power

Question:

57 Mr. Power asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs when a passport will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Kildare. [10808/97]

From the limited details provided by the Deputy, it has not been possible to trace a passport application from the person named. As there are no delays in processing passport applications, I would ask the Deputy to provide me with the applicant's date of birth and an indication of when and by what means, and I will pursue the matter further.

In general terms, I assure the Deputy that the efficient and speedy processing of passports is a priority in my Department. The introduction in 1995 of the "Passport Express" service made it possible to issue passports more quickly and conveniently through the post office network. As a result, waiting times and queues at the passport offices in Dublin and Cork have been reduced substantially and more than 85 per cent of correct applications received are now processed within ten working days.
