Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Bovine Diseases.

Joe Walsh

Question:

131 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the plans, if any, he has to introduce a pre-movement test in order to reduce the spread of tuberculosis and brucellosis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11025/97]

I have no plans at this time to re-introduce a compulsory pre-movement testing requirement in respect of TB. Discussions in relation to brucellosis are currently taking place between my Department and representatives of the farming bodies and veterinary groups to develop strategies to address the deteriorating position.
