Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Uniforms.

Ivor Callely

Question:

160 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine the cost of uniforms issued by his Department or authorities under the aegis of his Department for each of the years from 1994 to 1996; if he will give a breakdown of such costs; the level, volume and value of stock in store; if he will give details of the quality of materials used; the feedback, if any, there has been on the comfort and benefit to the users of the uniforms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11106/97]

The service officers and service attendants of my Department are supplied with uniforms. The uniforms are supplied through the Government Supplies Agency.

The cost of uniforms for each of the years from 1994 to 1996 is as follows: 1994, £1,452.11; 1995, £621.56; 1996, £3,097.25.

The uniforms are supplied to order and the Department does not hold any stocks. While there has been no formal feedback, the Department is satisfied in relation to the quality of the materials used and in relation to the comfort factor and benefits involved. Uniforms policy in bodies under the aegis of my Department is a matter for those bodies.
