Vol. 478 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Power — the necessity for the Government to introduce a measure whereby all general election candidates should hold a tax clearance certificate to restore public confidence in our democracy; (2) Deputy Flaherty — the application from Dublin City University for funding towards the cost of developing sports facilities on the St. Clare lands; (3) Deputy Briscoe — the need for other EU member states to tighten their laws with regard to use of drugs and the action taken by the Irish Government in this regard; (4) Deputy O'Rourke — the plans of the Minister for Social Welfare, if any, to assist Irish Life workers, as he did the former Irish Press workers and with the Dunnes Stores workers, in view of the fact that 300 Irish Life staff have been on strike for ten weeks and their only form of assistance has been a union stipend of £30 a week.

All four matters are in order and have been selected for discussion.
