Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dental Service.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

28 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if a person (details supplied) in County Cork is entitled to have dental treatment carried out by the health board free of charge. [11055/97]

Limerick East): Under the dental treatment services scheme emergency dental treatment for the relief of pain is available to all persons aged 16 years or over who have medical card entitlement. Routine dental treatment is currently available under the scheme to persons aged 16-34 years and to persons aged 65 years or over. Routine treatment will be phased in for the remaining age cohorts according as resources are available to me. Persons requiring routine dental treatment must make application to the health board in the first instance.

As the provision of dental treatment to eligible persons in County Cork is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board I have asked the chief executive officer of the Southren Health Board to investigate the case and to reply to the Deputy directly as a matter of urgency.
