Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Family Law Acts.

Ivor Callely

Question:

51 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the issues of concern, if any, to which his attention has been drawn regarding the Family Law Acts; the additional measures, if any, he is considering in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11038/97]

The Family Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, 1997, which passed all Stages in the House on 23 April 1997, addresses a number of issues. It amends the law in relation to notification of intention to marry, to barring orders granted in the case of cohabitants, to irrevocable powers of attorney and, to disclaimers of interest in cases of intestate succession.

Further proposals for amendments in the area of family law will be announced in the normal manner in due course.
