Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Uniforms.

Ivor Callely

Question:

52 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the cost of uniforms issued by his Department or authorities under the aegis of his Department for each of the years from 1994 to 1996; if he will give a breakdown of such costs; the level, volume and value of stock in store; if he will give details of the quality of materials used; the feedback, if any, there has been on the comfort and benefit to the users of the uniforms; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11102/97]

Uniforms are provided by my Department to three service officers at a cost of £414, £378 and £408 approximately, in respect of each of the years 1994, 1995 and 1996 respectively.

There are no uniformed staff serving in either of the State bodies which operate under the aegis of my Department.
The uniforms provided to the service officers are standard Government issue, supplied by the Government Supplies Agency. Accordingly, I do not influence the quality of materials used in the manufacture of the uniforms. Neither my Department nor I have been given the opinions of the wearers on the uniform.
My Department does not maintain stocks of uniforms.
