66 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding EU proposals for a general system of recognition and standards of higher education diplomas in respect of lawyers and other professional groups; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10956/97]
Council Directive 89/48/EEC on a general system for the recognition of higher education diplomas introduced for regulated professions, a general system for the recognition of higher education diplomas awarded on completion of professional education and training of at least three years' duration.
This Directive was adopted on 21 December 1988 and was transposed into Irish law by Statutory Instrument No. 1 of 1991 with effect from 4 January 1991.
