Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

92 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason unemployment assistance for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo was reduced from £64 to £38; and if he will give details of the calculation of this person's assessment. [10975/97]

Following a review of his entitlement, it was established that the person concerned had a gross annual income from self-employment in 1996 of £1,970.33. Based on this figure, a deciding officer assessed his weekly means at £38 from 1 April 1997. This assessment entitles him to payment of unemployment assistance at the reduced weekly rate of £26.50 from that date.

It is open to the person concerned to appeal this decision and a form for this purpose may be obtained from his Social Welfare local office in Belmullet. His case will then be forwarded to the independent social welfare appeals office for consideration.
