Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Local Improvement Schemes.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

119 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are some 28 applications for local improvement schemes in the New Ross electoral area and that there are 30 applications for the rest of County Wexford; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that with current annual funding, it would take 40 years to clear the current applications; if he will provide greater funding to County Wexford for these schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11406/97]

The administration of the local improvement scheme is developed to county councils and details of waiting lists in individual counties are not available in my Department. The extent of such lists can be influenced by the different practices adopted in different areas and is not necessarily an objective measure of relative need. There are no additional funds available to me to increase the allocation of £50,000 already notified to Wexford County Council for 1997.
