Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

121 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment his views on the fact that Rosslare Strand village, County Wexford, has grown in population and in the number of houses and the fact that this growth has put enormous pressure on the services such as water, water pressure and sewerage, particularly at peak times; his views on whether such pressure impedes future growth; the proposals, if any, he has to alleviate the current problems and provide for anticipated future development in relation to water and sewerage; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11408/97]

The Fardystown regional water supply scheme, which is at present under construction, will alleviate the water supply problems in Rosslare Strand village. There are no proposals with my Department for a sewerage scheme to serve the village.

Tony Killeen

Question:

125 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for the Environment the level of grant aid which was allocated to Clare County Council on 26 March 1997 in respect of capital works in group water schemes; and the level of commitments to groups in County Clare on foot of approvals already issued by his Department for 1997. [11467/97]

The overall grant commitment in respect of schemes approved to get to construction in 1997 is £278,000; in the case of many of these schemes, construction work, and expenditure, will extend into 1998. A block grant allocation of £177,100 to meet anticipated grant expenditure in the current year has been notified to Clare County Council.
