Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

135 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education the current status of an application to refurbish a school (details supplied) in Dublin 16; the expected cost of the project; and the timescale for completion; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11176/97]

The school referred to by the Deputy applied to my Department for grant-aid towards the cost of a range of improvements and maintenance works at the school. My Department provided grant aid of £21,800 towards the cost of the improvement works requiring urgent attention and these works are now complete.

The school manager has been advised that my Department is not in a position to provide grant-aid towards the cost of the maintenance items as such work is already covered by the capitation grant scheme. The manager has also been advised that the moneys due under the new minor grant scheme may be used to cover the cost of refurbishing the staffroom at the school.
