Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

137 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the application for rewiring of St. Mary's College, Dundalk, County Louth; the reason for the delay in granting assistance in this regard, particularly in view of the fact that the question of the safety of the existing wiring was raised as far back as November 1992; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11178/97]

An application for grant assistance for the rewiring of St. Mary's College, Dundalk, County Louth, is under consideration in my Department.

Due to the huge volume of projects on hand as a result of reductions in capital funding during the period 1998-92 and the limited resources available, it was not possible to proceed with this work to date.

However, this project will continue to be reviewed in light of available resources and competing priorities.
