Vol. 478 No. 4

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

Eamon Walsh

Question:

140 Mr. E. Walsh asked the Minister for Education if she will provide sufficient funding to permit Coláiste Chillian, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, to teach music on a permanent basis in view of the absence of sufficient resources from within the school's budget; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11195/97]

In the vocational sector, the teacher allocation for a school year is allocated to the appropriate vocational education committee on a vocational education committee scheme basis. It is a matter for the chief executive officer to allocate teaching resources to individual schools within the scheme from within the overall approved teacher allocation.

In the case of Coláiste Chillian, it is a matter for the chief executive officer of County Dublin vocational education committee to allocated teaching resources from within the approved overall allocation for the scheme to this school to cater for the curriculum which is being offered to students attending the school.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

141 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding an application by Scoil Clocha Mhuire, Castletown Road, Dundalk, County Louth, for a concessionary post; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11208/97]

The school in question was one of 16 schools granted disadvantaged area status for funding purposes only in December 1996. The decision to grant disadvantaged area status in question was taken in recognition of the fact that these schools were dealing with the same general population as other schools in the area which has previously been granted disadvantaged status.

I am not in a position at present to allocate additional concessionary teacher posts to schools in the disadvantaged areas scheme. In the event of such posts becoming available, the needs of the school in question will be considered.
