Noel Ahern

Question:

173 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, there has been further to her reply to Parliamentary Question 93 of 12 February 1997, by Deputy Mr. N. Ahern in relation to De La Salle primary school, Glasnevin Road, Dublin 11 and other sub-standard schools in Dublin north-west; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11459/97]

The position in relation to De La Salle primary school, Glasnevin Road, Dublin 11, and the other schools referred to, was outlined in my Department's letter of 28 February 1997 to the Deputy. The following is the position in regard to the schools in question.

In relation to De La Salle national school, the Department's professional advisers have been requested to report on the condition of the windows and the electrical and heating installations at this school. On receipt of this report, the Department will be in touch with the school authorities.

In relation to St. Joseph's national school, the Department has received a request for replacement windows and doors at this school. This request will be considered in light of available capital funds.

In relation to the North Dublin School Project, the Department has commenced the architectural planning for a new nine classroom school on a green-field site. When all the planning work has been completed, a decision on the tender and contract process will be taken in the light of other priority projects, and available financial resources.
