Written Answers. - County Galway Projects.

Noel Treacy

Question:

261 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Marine the amount available for a project (details supplied) in County Galway; the locations where money will be spent in 1997; the amount to be spent at each location; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11142/97]

A pre-development survey of the Rivers Shiven, Bunowen and upper River Suck was approved by the management committee of the tourism angling measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism on 12 March 1997 at a cost of £105,000. During 1997 the upper River Suck in the Castlerea-Ballinknock area, the Rivers Shiven, Bunowen, Killeglan, Island River, Smaghraan, Ballyharda and Ballinure will be surveyed. It is not possible at this stage to provide a breakdown of proposed expenditure between these locations.

On completion of the survey the applicants, the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board, propose to submit a game angling enhancement programme for funding under the Tourism Operational Programme.
