Vol. 478 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

127 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be made on an unemployment assistance appeal for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [11521/97]

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance a the rate of £56.50 per week in respect of herself and half rate for five qualified children based on a means assessment of £82 per week, derived from her husband's earnings. As a result of a review of her claim her means were increased to £157.35 per week based on an increase in her husband's earnings. As a consequence her rate of payment was reduced to £18.10, inclusive, from 26 February 1997.

The person concerned appealed against the decision to reduce her unemployment assistance. Her appeal was considered by an appeals officer who, having considered all the evidence, decided that the assessment was fair and reasonable and upheld the decision.
