Vol. 478 No. 5

Written Answers. - Central African Crisis.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

15 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the efforts, if any, he is making to provide political support for a lasting solution to the crisis in central Africa; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11237/97]

Michael McDowell

Question:

42 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to recent remarks by Rwandan Ministers that it is legitimate to use donor aid to pursue a war against the Hutus; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that there are now over 100,000 people being kept in inhumane conditions in Rwanda awaiting charges of genocide; if his attention has further been drawn to allegations that the Rwandan Government is cooperating with Mr. Kabila in starving Hutu refugees to death; and if he will review Ireland's policy of support for the Rwandan regime in view of these issues. [11518/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 42 together as they deal with similar subject matter.

I would refer the Deputies to my response to Priority Question No. 7 of today, tabled by Deputy O'Malley.
