Vol. 478 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Costs.

Ivor Callely

Question:

30 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach the total expenditure by his Department for each of the years 1995 and 1996 on consultants, ministerial programme managers, advisers, contract staff, non-Civil Service staff and public relations contracts; the cost of his phone and mobile phone bills and those of the Minister(s) of State; the cost of photography to his Department; the number of times ministerial air transport was used for this period; if he will give comparative figures for each of the years 1988 and 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11581/97]

In respect of the total expenditure on consultants, programme managers, advisers, contract staff, non-Civil Service staff and public relations contracts, I would refer the Deputy to my answers to previous parliamentary questions in these and related matters, viz: Question No. 14 of 22 January 1997, Question No. 77 of 22 January 1997, Question No. 6 of 30 October 1996, Question No. 50 of 22 October 1996, Question No. 51 of 22 October 1996, Question No. 53 of 6 March 1996, Question No. 57 of 13 December 1995.

The cost of my phones and those of my Ministers of State and the photography costs for my Department are as follows:

1995

1996

£

£

Telephones, including mobile phones

7,943

12,926

Photography

21,051

16,999

The Ministerial air transport service was used on approximately 27 occasions in 1995 and 27 in 1996. I do not consider it an efficient use of administrative time to provide comparative details for 1988 and 1989 as the information is not readily available in computerised format.
