Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Chris Flood

Question:

84 Mr. Flood asked the Minister for Education the arrangements, if any, she has entered into with South Dublin County Council and Tallaght community school for the proper and adequate funding of the sports complex located adjacent to Tallaght community school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11499/97]

The overall management and funding arrangements for Tallaght Sports Complex is governed by the terms of the trust deed of Tallaght community school and agreements reached between the school, Dublin County Council and the Department in the early 1970s. These arrangements provide that the complex be operated on a self-financing basis, with any operational deficit incurred being shared equally between the Department and county council. The Department also makes provision in its budget allocation to the school in respect of school usage of the complex.

I understand that discussions are continuing between South Dublin County Council and Tallaght community school with a view to securing an annual subvention from the county council to reflect the value of the amenity being provided to the local community.
