Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Street Protest.

Tony Gregory

Question:

151 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if the person who initiated the attack on a peaceful protest (details supplied) has been charged by the Garda. [11752/97]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, after the march in question had ended, three persons called to Store Street garda station and complained they had been assaulted. They were invited to make written statements then but declined, saying that they had to go to the Mater Hospital. Arrangements were made for the three persons to return to the station on the following morning in order that they could make the statements but they failed to keep this appointment. I understand that the complainants will be contacted by the Garda again shortly and afforded another opportunity to make written statements so that the matter can be investigated to a conclusion.
