Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Employment Horizon Programme.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

159 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will make funding available to an authority (details supplied) in County Cork under the employment horizon programme. [11815/97]

There has been a very high level of interest in the employment horizon programme and this is reflected in the volume of applications for funding, 136 of which have been received by my Department. The total value of European Social Funding sought is in excess of £36 million and the total funding available is less than £9 million.

Each application will be subject to an initial technical assessment and will then be further assessed by a broadly based representative selection committee which will, in turn, refer to the eligibility and selection criteria which apply to employment horizon. The exact composition of the selection committee has yet to be fixed. However, it will be representative of relevant Departments, social partner organisations and organisations from the non-statutory sector.

A full review of all applications will be completed by the end of July at which stage a letter will issue to all project promoters notifying them of the outcome of the process.
