Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Green Pound Revaluation.

Joe Walsh

Question:

198 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the estimated loss to Irish agriculture resulting from the recent green pound revaluations for each of the relevant areas. [11909/97]

The actual losses resulting directly from revaluations of the Irish green pound are difficult to establish precisely. However, the losses estimated by the EU Commission, on which compensatory aid was based in relation to the revaluations which took place on 8 November 1996, 11 January 1997 and 29 March 1997, were as follows for the four sectors concerned:

Milk

£66 million

Beef

£65 million

Cereals

£8 million

Sugar

£3 million
