Vol. 478 No. 6

Written Answers. - Currency Differentials.

Charlie McCreevy

Question:

26 Mr. McCreevy asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to assist those companies which may be suffering as a result of the punt's recent slide against sterling; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11625/97]

I have no plans to assist such companies. The vast majority of companies affected by the fall of the Irish pound against sterling are either exporting to the UK or competing with UK imports either in Ireland or in third country markets. Such companies should be benefiting from the fall in the IR£ against sterling.
