Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Albert Reynolds

Question:

119 Mr. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Environment when the Slatta group water scheme, County Roscommon, will be approved; and if funding has been approved in this regard to Roscommon County Council in view of the fact that the local subscription have already been lodged in the bank. [12077/97]

As already announced, responsibility for the administration of the group water and sewerage schemes programme has been devolved to the local authorities, subject to existing commitments on foot of approvals issued by my Department. Where schemes have not yet been approved, such as the Slatta scheme, it will in future be a matter for the local authorities to decide on grant applications.

[12088/97]

Contract documents and additional information were submitted to my Department on 4 April and 21 April 1997 respectively, and are under examination with a view to approval as soon as possible.

John Ellis

Question:

123 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment when sanction was given for the preparation of plans and contract documents for sewerage schemes (details supplied); and the proposed starting date for work on each of the projects.[12147/97]

I approved contract documents for Newtowngore and Keshcarrigan sewerage schemes on 17 December 1996. A report on the tenders was received in my Department on 6 May and is now under examination. Contract documents for the Dromod sewerage scheme are being revised by Leitrim County Council and are awaited in my Department. It is hoped that work on all of these projects will commence this year.

The consultants' brief for Fenagh sewerage scheme was approved by my Department in December 1996 and consultants have been appointed by Leitrim County Council to prepare preliminary and economic assessments.

A combined proposal for sewerage schemes at Summerhill and Dowra was approved in 1996 and this scheme has now been completed. The sewerage extension to Hartley was approved in 1995 and work on the scheme is on going.

124 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for the Environment the progress, if any, which has been made in relation to the proposed Waterville sewerage scheme, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12182/97]

A brief for this scheme has been submitted to my Department but, given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve it.

Seán Doherty

Question:

126 Mr. Doherty asked the Minister for the Environment when work will commence on the north eastern regional water scheme extension from Scramogue and Kilglass to Tarmonbarry Village, County Roscommon; when work will commence if it is not to commence in 1997; and the cost of the scheme. [12184/97]

The north-east Roscommon regional water supply scheme extention to Tarmonbarry, costing an estimated £873,000, is included in my Department's 1997 water and sewerage services capital works programme to be advanced through the planning and design stage. I hope shortly to be in a position to approve the preliminary report for the scheme.
