130 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to approve the siting of Arklow sewerage works on a national heritage site; and if so, the way in which this conforms to the Government's policy in relation to sustainable development. [12217/97]
The site selected by Arklow UDC as the proposers of the sewage treatment works, has received planning permission from Wicklow County Council, as planning authority, and subsequently from An Bord Pleanála, following a third party appeal. The planning process involved full environmental impact assessment. A public local inquiry was held into the compulsory purchase order and, in November 1995, I confirmed the order without modification. In these circumstances, I do not propose to review further the proposed location of the works.
131 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction a secondary grant for a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Galway. [12238/97]
There is no record in my Department of a scheme at this location. However, a proposal was received for the upgrading of a scheme at Cloonatleva, Fohenagh, Ballinasloe, County Galway.
As already announced, responsibility for the administration of group schemes has been devolved to the local authorities, subject to existing commitments on foot of approvals issued by my Department. Where schemes have not yet been approved, such as the Cloonatleva scheme, it will in future be a matter for the local authorities to decide on applications.
