Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Special Examination Arrangements.

Joe Costello

Question:

141 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7, who is dyslexic, will be facilitated in sitting his junior certificate exams. [11941/97]

My Department's scheme of special examination arrangements requires that schools apply for such arrangements on behalf of their students. This is because schools are familiar with the scheme and with my Department's requirements for documentation, including the views and experiences of the school, which will support the application.

The position in the case of the student referred to by the Deputy is that the school in question has not applied to my Department for any special examination arrangements on behalf of the student.
