Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Licensed Premises Exemptions.

Declan Bree

Question:

194 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Justice the number of exemptions granted to licensed premises in County Donegal in the months of November 1996, December 1996 and January 1997; the names of the premises; the dates for which the exemptions were granted; if it was a condition of the exemptions that a supper be served; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12237/97]

I refer the Deputy to my answer of 13 February 1997 to his Parliamentary Question No. 99 on the Order Paper in which I gave details of the number of special exemptions granted in County Donegal during the period in question. I also advised the Deputy in my reply that it was a statutory requirement that a substantial meal would be served in most cases where a special exemption has been granted.

Court records are not maintained in such a way as to provide ready access to the names of the premises or the dates for which the special exemptions were granted. This information could only be obtained by the examination of individual court files which would require the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time. However, if the Deputy has a query in relation to the granting of a special exemption order to a specific premises on a specific date I will endeavour to ascertain if a special exemption was granted to the premises on the date concerned and the conditions attaching thereto.
