Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Army Recruitment.

Albert Reynolds

Question:

260 Mr. Reynolds asked the Minister for Defence when a new recruitment campaign for the Army will commence. [11959/97]

The Defence Forces Review Implementation Plan provides for an intake of a total of 400 military personnel in 1997. To date in 1997, 200 personnel have been enlisted for general service in the Army and in the Naval Service. Advertisements inviting applications to take part in cadetship competitions were placed in the national press recently — the closing date for the receipt of completed applications forms is 14 May.

It is anticipated that advertisements for a further intake of recruits will be placed in the national press shortly. The implementation plan also provides for the recruitment of a further 400 military personnel in 1998.
