Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Declan Bree

Question:

72 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Health the amount which was allocated to Sligo General Hospital for the reduction of waiting lists and the waiting list initiative in each of the years from 1989 to 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12101/97]

Limerick East): Since the waiting list initiative commenced in 1993 I have allocated the following amounts to the North-Western Health Board to reduce waiting times in a number of target specialties where waiting times were considered excessive.

Year

Amount

£

1993

1,530,000

1994

790,000

1995

720,000

1996

742,000

Total

3,782,000

The decision regarding the distribution of these funds to the hospitals in the health board's area was a matter for the North-Western Health Board. I have therefore requested the chief executive officer of the board to reply to the Deputy directly in this matter.
