Written Answers - Irish Medicines Board.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

77 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health his views on whether the appointment of a person (details supplied) to the Irish Medicines Board is in any way inappropriate. [9037/97]

Limerick East): I am fully satisfied that the appointment of the Irish Medicines Board of the person referred to is in no way inappropriate.

The membership of the board comprises persons of known integrity and experience drawn from a wide range of backgrounds all relevant to the work of the board. These include persons from the medical, veterinary and pharmaceutical professions, together with persons of management expertise in both the public and private sectors and a consumer representative.

I am satisfied that the balance of skills and experience as represented in the board's membership is such to ensure the effective and efficient management of the board.
