Vol. 479 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

27 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health if he has satisfied himself that he is able to meet the commitments given to date in 1997 from his existing allocation. [12401/97]

Limerick East): The 1997 Health Estimate reflects this Government's commitment to maintain and develop the health services. As Minister for Health I am conscious of the difficulties which arise between the level of resources available and the competing demands for ever increasing expenditure. I am satisfied, however, that the 1997 Health Estimate provides sufficient resources to enable health agencies to maintain the 1996 approved level of services and provide for developments in critical areas such as mental handicap, child care and cancer services and the continuation of the waiting list initiative.
