Vol. 479 No. 1

Written Answers. - Commission on Nursing Profession.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

28 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health the reason he did not to include any member of An Bord Altranais on the Commission on the Nursing Profession. [12407/97]

Limerick East): The Deputy will appreciate that the number of members to be appointed to the commission on nursing was limited, and that it had been agreed previously that a significant proportion of the members would be appointed on the nomination of unions representing nurses. Therefore, it was not possible for me to accede to all the many requests I received regarding representation on the commission.

While it was not possible to appoint a nominee of An Bord Altranais to the commission, two of the members of the commission are in fact members of An Bord Altranais. In addition, I am certain that any submissions which An Bord Altranais, and all other interested parties, may wish to make to the commission will be given full consideration.
