Vol. 479 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Hugh Byrne

Question:

79 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will have arrangements made to pay full occupational injury benefit to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12371/97]

The person concerned made a claim to injury benefit on 12 March 1997 in respect of an occupational accident on 3 March 1997. Pending the completion of inquiries into the occupational accident, disability benefit, the rate of which is equivalent to occupational injury benefit, is in payment on an interim basis at the rate appropriate to a married man with a dependent spouse.

However, the person concerned has an outstanding overpayment of some £1,400 which arose as a result of concurrent working and claiming of unemployment assistance during the period from 1987-89 and deductions at the rate of £3 weekly are being made towards recovery of this overpayment. His weekly rate of benefit is, accoringly, £100.
