Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Kilmacurragh House, Wicklow.

Mildred Fox

Question:

116 Ms M. Fox asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the amount of land at Kilmacurragh House and gardens, County Wicklow, which is in the ownership of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12555/97]

117.

asked the Minister for Arts,

Culture and the Gaeltacht the plans, if any, he has to restore Kilmacurragh House, County Wicklow, to its original state; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12556/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 116 and 117 together.

Kilmacurragh Arboretum, including the house, which was purchased by my Department in April 1996, comprises some 52 acres.

At that time, I made it clear that the focus of my Department's interest in the property is the arboretum and that a condition of the State purchasing the property was that the House would be retained as a ruin.

Consequently, it is proposed to secure the house, to make it safe and maintain it as it is.
