Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Noel Treacy

Question:

133 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment if he will reaffirm his public commitment for a project (details supplied) in County Galway; the date on which official sanction will be communicated to the relevant authorities and organisations; the amount of money allocated in this regard in 1997; the areas to be served; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13118/97]

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

151 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment if he will meet a deputation in relation to providing immediate funding for a group water scheme (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12735/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 133 and 151 together.

On 8 May 1997, I approved the preliminary resport for stage 1 of the Ballinasloe regional water supply scheme. I also announced that I would be authorising Galway County Council to prepare contract documents for the extension of the scheme to serve the Laurencetown and Eyrecourt areas. I wrote to the Laurencetown-Eyrecourt group on the same date advising them of my decision to provide their scheme with an alternative source of water from the Ballinasloe public supply; a meeting with a deputation should not therefore be necessary at this stage. My Department informed the county manager of my decision and further details relating to the specific works involved will be communicated to the county council shortly. My Department does not make annual capital allocations for individual water schemes, but makes payments as required, on foot of certified expenditure on approved schemes. The Ballinasloe scheme will be financed on this basis out of my Department's overall allocation for water and sewerage schemes in 1997.

Joe Walsh

Question:

134 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction the commencement of work on a water supply scheme (details supplied) in County Cork. [12439/97]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 84 of 12 March 1997. The position is unchanged.

Joe Walsh

Question:

135 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for the Environment if he will allocate funds in 1997 to allow the commencement of work on a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Cork. [12440/97]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 113 and 135 of 5 March 1997. The position is unchanged.
