Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

140 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to replace the asbestos pipes in water schemes throughout the country; the estimated length of pipeline involved; the estimated costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12514/97]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 68 of 16 April 1997. There are no plans to replace the asbestos cement piping used in water schemes. As a matter of general policy, the latest internationally recognised standards are applied in relation to materials used for water schemes.
