Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Tony Gregory

Question:

198 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if she will provide a subsidy for a double prefab for the coming school year in Gaelscoil Bharra, Cabra, Dublin 7, to provide an additional classroom with a badly needed staff, office and storage facility. [12595/97]

Gaelscoil Bharra, Cabra, was granted temporary recognition by my Department with effect from September 1996. The school which has a staff of one teacher is currently located in rented accommodation on the site of St. Finbarr's GAA Club, Cabra. My Department is grant-aiding 75 per cent of the rental charge for this temporary accommodation.

An application has been received from the gaelscoil within the past week for grant-aid towards the rental of an additional double prefabricated unit to accommodate an extra teacher and pupils next September and to provide a staff room and storage space.

The school's application is currently being considered in the planning section of my Department and a decision on the matter will be notified to the school authorities as soon as possible.
