Question:

226 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Education the amounts and purpose of any funding or grant allocations made by her Department or by bodies under the aegis of her Department to organisations (details supplied) in each of the years from 1995 to date in 1997. [12846/97]

In the period referred to by the Deputy, my Department made payments to the Irish Country-womens' Association, Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed, Conference of Religious of Ireland, National Youth Federation, National Youth Council of Ireland and to Pavee Point, an organisation which is linked to the Irish travellers movement. The details are as follows:

Irish Countrywomens' Association

1995

A total of £80,000 was provided. This consisted of £18,000 towards general expenses, £50,000 for the Association's 85th anniversary, £7,000 towards the cost of employing a development officer for sports and leisure activities, £5,000 for the promotion of sports and leisure activities.

1996

A total of £31,000 was provided. This consisted of £18,000 towards general expenses, £7,000 towards the cost of employing a development officer for sports and leisure activities, £6,000 for promotion of sports and leisure activities.

1997

Provision has been made for payment of a total of £33,000. This consists of £18,000 towards general expenses, £7,000 towards the cost of a development officer, £8,000 for promotion of sports and leisure activities.

Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed

1995

The Department gave a grant of £4,000 to the INOU towards the cost of an information booklet for the unemployed “Working for Work” which included information on adult education programmes.

1996

A grant of £6,269 was paid towards the cost of the production of an updated version of the booklet.

1997

The INOU have applied to the Department for funding to produce a further updated version of the handbook this year and are likely to receive a grant based on the actual cost of publication.

Conference of Religious of Ireland

1995

Nil

1996

A grant of £1,369 was paid towards the in-service training of teachers.

1997

Nil

The following grants were made available to the organisations outlined below from the Youth Affairs Budget in order to support youth work activities. In the case of 1997, final allocations have not yet been decided. The amounts shown are interim payments.
