Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Recipients.

Noel Ahern

Question:

270 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of people signing on at Ballymun social welfare office; if he will give a breakdown of this figure between people from Ballymun Estate and elsewhere; the number of people in Ballymun in receipt of lone parents' payments; the number on the back to work scheme or other schemes. [12915/97]

The number of people on the live register at Ballymun local office on 28 March 1997, classified by sex and age, is contained in the following table. The equivalent figures for March 1996 are also provided, for comparison purposes. These show that the live register at Ballymun fell by 322 or 12 per cent between March 1996 and March 1997.

A breakdown as between people from Ballymun estate and elsewhere, requested by the Deputy, is not available.

Approximately 1,100 recipients of one parent family payment collect their payment at the post office in Ballymun shopping centre. However, because recipients nominate the post office at which they collect their payment, there may be recipients living in Ballymun who collect their payment elsewhere and likewise, there may be people collecting their payment at the post office in Ballymun who do not live in Ballymun.

The breakdown requested by the Deputy in relation to the back to work allowance is not available.
