Question:

381 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when a milk quota subsidy will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick in view of the fact that the person has been awaiting this payment since October 1995 and all appropriate details have been furnished to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12927/97]

An application for subsidy towards the purchase price of milk quota under the 1995 subsidised milk quota restructuring scheme by the person named, who is a new entrant to milk production, was received in the Department.

Eligibility for subsidy towards the purchase of restructured quota under the 1995 restructuring scheme was determined on the basis of criteria set down by the EU Commission. These criteria were notified to all applicants. As the person named did not satisfy the criteria as a new entrant, his application was unsuccessful.
