Vol. 479 No. 2

Written Answers. - Opthalmology Appointments.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

80 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Health the steps, if any, he will take to address a situation in Dublin 15 in relation to an unfilled vacancy for a consultant opthalmological surgeon which has necessitated the indefinite deferment of ophthalmology appointments in respect of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 15; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12489/97]

Limerick East): Inquiries have been made into this matter and I understand that the interviews for the post of consultant ophthalmologist have recently been held and the James Connolly Memorial Hospital expect to be in a position to fill this vacancy within the next few months. However, in the meantime the hospital is endeavouring to secure locum cover to enable it to continue this service promptly.

In respect of the person referred to by the Deputy the hospital was able to assist in obtaining an appointment for this person at another facility.
