Vol. 479 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Noel Treacy

Question:

96 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in providing facilities at a location (details supplied) in County Galway; when sanction was given for the first phase of this development; when sanction will be given for the next phase of the development; the amount allocated in this regard in 1997; when construction will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13083/97]

My Department has approved in principle the provision of a new secondary school at the location in question and the school authorities are currently carrying out site investigations. The question of proceeding to construction will not arise until the successful completion of the architectural planning process.

Officials from the planning and building unit of my Department are in regular contact with County Galway Vocational Education Committee in relation to the vocational school at the location in question. My Department has recently approved repairs to sanitation facilities at the school and is awaiting proposals with costings from the vocational education committee in relation to refurbishment works at the school. When these proposals are received they will be considered in light of available resources.
