Vol. 479 No. 3

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Personnel.

Seán Power

Question:

141 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence the staffing changes, if any, which have been made at the Curragh hospital, County Kildare; the consultations, if any, which took place with the staff before the changes began; and if he has satisfied himself that a proper service can be delivered under the new arrangements. [13033/97]

Duty rosters are a command and control matter and do not come within the scope of representation. I am prepared, however, to allow the Army nursing service personnel concerned express their views through their representative association, and a meeting between officials of the Department and the Irish Nurses' Organisation will be arranged at an appropriate time. In the meantime I am happy that the rostering arrangements which are currently in place satisfactorily meet requirements at the Curragh hospital.
