Vol. 479 No. 3

Written Answers. - Commission on Disability Recommendations.

Liam Aylward

Question:

23 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment the number of the 402 recommended actions in the report of the Commission on Disability which relate to the remit of his Department; and the number which have been implemented to date. [12900/97]

The recommendations in the report of the Commission are currently being examined by an inter-departmental task force, on which my Department is represented. The task force will draw up a detailed plan of action on the rights of people with disabilities, based on the Commission's report; this is due to be finalised by mid-summer 1997.

As part of the analysis of the task force, some 64 recommendations in the Commission's report are considered to be of relevance to my Department and/or local authorities. In advance of the detailed action plan, some 15 of these recommendations are already being implemented, either in full or in part.
