Vol. 479 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Noel Treacy

Question:

49 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Taoiseach the number, names, amounts, dates of allocation, dates of payment and other relevant details of all national lottery, local development and other grants sanctioned by his Department in each of the years from 1 December 1994 and 15 May 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13096/97]

My Department does not receive any national lottery funding. In relation to local development funding, I refer the Deputy to the information provided in the replies to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 81 — 23 January 1996 — and No. 9 — 26 November, 1996.

All but four of these grants were paid in 1996. The allocations were not drawn down by the following organisations — (1) Grange-Frankfield Community Associations Cork; (2) Togher Pre-School and Family Centre, Cork; (3) Turners Cross Community Association, Cork; (4) Inner City Renewal Group, Dublin — as they had not completed their financing packages and the projects could not commence on a viable basis in 1996. No grant allocations have been made to date in 1997.

Information in relation to other grants sanctioned by my Department is outlined in the following schedule:

In 1996 the Famine Commemoration Committee made a grant of £2,000 available to the Bantry Bay Summer School which was dealing with the theme of the French Revolution and its relevance to Ireland which was especially suitable for 1996 as it is the bi-centenary of the arrival at Bantry Bay of the French Armada carrying Wolfe Tone.
