Question:

54 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the salaries and other financial arrangements of the chief executives and senior management of each of five new offices further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 79 of 7 May 1997 by Deputy Callely; if such personnel received a golden handshake, an ex gratia or other such payments from the health services on their departure from their previous positions; if they are in receipt of pensions or other such payments from the health services; if he will give a full statistical breakdown in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Limerick East): The salaries of the chief executives and senior managements of three of the agencies are set out in the following table:

In addition, each of the post holders is entitled to claim travel, subsistence and other vouched expenses in accordance with approved public service arrangements.

The Food Safety Advisory Board does not have a chief executive officer or senior management. It is supported by an officer seconded from the Department of Health. The Food Safety Authority does not yet have a chief executive or other senior management.

The chief executive officer of the office for health gain retired early from his previous post, having qualified for and received the standard pension and lump sum payment in accordance with established paractice in such cases. His current salary and pension combined do not exceed the remuneration for his former post.

All of the foregoing arrangements have been approved by my Department.
