Question:

55 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health if he will give a breakdown of all payments made to employees who left or retired from the Blood Transfusion Service Board over the past three years, if he has satisfied himself that all such payments were merited; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13010/97]

Limerick East): Since the beginning of 1994, payments were made to a total of 11 employees who left or retired from the Blood Transfusion Service Board.

A breakdown of these payments is set out in the following table:

The pension scheme in operation in the Blood Transfusion Service Board is a private scheme and the benefits which accure to employees who are members of the scheme are based on the return on investment income from contributions made by members and by the board. The board acts in accordance with public service norms in making determinations on matters such as volumtary early retirement.
