Vol. 480 No. 3

Written Answers - Hospital Building Projects.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

67 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, achieved by the Naas hospital design team; if he expects the plans to advance sufficiently to facilitate commencement of site works in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14190/97]

As the Deputy is aware, the revised development brief for Naas General Hospital was formally approved on 4 June 1997. This approval allows the Eastern Health Board to proceed with the preparation of a revised development control plan for the hospital development and the drafting of a more detailed phase II development option within the approved cost limits. The design and project teams are currently involved in discussions with regard to the various options for phase II of the hospital development.

I have been assured that the planning process for the hospital development is being progressed as quickly as is possible and that the target date for the commencement of site works is January-February 1998.
