Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Departmental Properties.

Tony Gregory

Question:

152 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Defence if he will allow a family to continue to live in a house in Dublin 7 in the ownership of his Department in view of the long tenancy of more than 12 years of a mother (details supplied) and three children; and if not, the assistance, if any, his Department will give to the family to enable them to find suitable alternative accommodation. [14520/97]

Since 1988 it has been the policy of the Department to dispose of married quarters located outside of barracks. The house in question has been offered for sale to the occupants on a number of occasions under advantageous terms similar to those contained in the local authority tenant purchase schemes but the sale did not proceed.

Should the occupants now wish to purchase the house the matter will be given favourable consideration.

If the purchase option is declined the Department will continue to request the relevant local authority to provide suitable alternative accommodation.
